What is Ayurveda and how foods help us get healthier

Space. Formless and vast receptacle of thought, form and perception. It is an invisible energy, full of potential, from which thoughts are born.

Air. When the potential grows and awakens within space, it becomes air and allows our thoughts to “circulate” through the body.

Fire. It transforms and releases accumulated energy, controls the “digestion” of ideas in the head and food in the stomach.

Water. It nourishes the body and protects it from drying out, shrinking or heating other elements. It can be said that this is a safe environment for development. Water in the mind is represented by love and compassion, and in the body – any liquid substance – blood, lymph.

Earth. She is steady and stable. Everything solid in the body (like bones) and in the mind (like beliefs) is Earth.

In man, the five elements combine two by two to form the bodily constitutions, the doshas. And one is considered the main and defining character of a person. It is the balancing of all three doshas that is considered in Ayurvedic medicine as the main way to achieve harmony and health.

Health is brought by the right positive attitudes, and fresh air, and physical activity, and, of course, the right foods. Many people are afraid of plates in which everything is green and raw. “Can you eat this?”

Ayurveda divides all products into three categories:
Raja – sharp, spicy tastes. These are coffee, chocolate, hot spices, salt and any fast food. All this instantly fills us with “empty” energy. It is better to refuse such products, they are unlikely to help your body and spirit.

Tama is what makes a person lethargic. These are meat, fish, eggs, alcohol, tobacco, overripe fruits. All this slows down our mind and body, it is better to remove these products from your menu.

Sattva is pure, harmonious. These are fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, milk and cheese, seeds and nuts, honey, herbal teas. All this fills us with energy and life-giving force.
